Post-growth and newsflash about sleep #7 (2)

2 things I learned this week

Post-growth: There is a concept and movement called post-growth that refers to the world after capitalism. This is necessary because, if our world continues at this pace of growth, we won’t have a world. So, if we are to survive as a species, we need to think about what it means to exist without and after this trend of growth…or post-growth: post-growth economics, post-growth society, post-growth thinking.

Newsflash about sleep: If you get into bed and don’t fall asleep in 15ish minutes, don’t lay in bed and try to sleep. According to my cursory online search for “grad school insomnia”, you should get up and do something for at least 30 minutes, then try again for 15 minutes. Rinse and repeat as needed. If you just lay in bed and “try to fall asleep” for hours on end, you will find yourself in the position I currently find myself, where you can’t fall asleep because you are remembering the times you didn’t fall asleep and you are worried about what will happen if you don’t sleep. Not great.

This is the seventh? in a weekly series of what was previously called “little listicles”, then “weekly wanderings”, and now I’m just trying out random titles because I dunno! It’s kind of a log of my PhD student experience, but also kind of not. TBD. You can read more about my commitment to these weekly posts here.
